Solving a problem
Updated on August 5, 2026
When you open a problem in SimuLab you see a split screen: the statement and solving tools on one side, and the answer area on the other. This guide explains what each part does.
The statement and its tabs
The upper left section shows the problem content organized in three tabs:
- Description — the full problem statement: text, formulas, and, if the problem was AI-generated, a notice indicating that.
- Submissions — your history of previous attempts on this problem.
- Hints — a concept map that helps you if you get stuck.
Read the statement carefully. If the problem has sources (Theca books or web pages), you can see them in the Description tab below the statement.
The simulation
If the problem includes a scene, you will see it on the right side of the screen labelled Simulation. The scene plays automatically. You can pause it with Pause, resume it with Play, and adjust the speed with the Speed control. In 3D scenes you can rotate the view by dragging with the mouse.
The simulation is a visual aid. You do not need to interact with it to give your answer.
The answer area
Below the simulation (or below the statement if there is no simulation) is the area where you write your answer. The format depends on the problem type:
- A number — type the value in the Your numeric answer field.
- Multiple choice — select the correct option or options.
- Free text — write your answer in the Write your answer... field. The AI grades it.
- Step by step — you solve the problem in several sequential steps. Each step has its own field and you can move on once you complete the previous one.
Submitting your answer
When you are ready, press the Submit button or use the shortcut Ctrl+Enter. The grading appears in the Submissions tab with a verdict and, in most cases, written feedback explaining what went well and what to improve.
You can try the problem as many times as you want. Every attempt is saved in the Submissions tab.
If you made a mistake and want to start fresh, use Clear answer to empty the field without deleting your previous submissions.
Frequently asked questions
Can I see previous attempts while solving? Yes. The Submissions tab shows all your attempts with the score and feedback. You can switch tabs at any time without losing what you are writing.
Is there a limit on attempts? No. You can submit as many times as you want on the same problem.
What is the Ctrl+' shortcut for? That shortcut runs the test cases on step-by-step problems, without submitting the full problem.
Can I navigate between problems without going back? Yes. If the problem belongs to a collection, the Previous problem and Next problem buttons let you move between them.
Next step
- Submissions and feedback — how to read the grading and your attempt history.
- Hints — what hints are and when to ask for them.
- Interactive scenes — what you can do with the problem's simulation.
